Youth preview: Stags v Harrogate Town

11 August 2023

Mansfield Town under-19s are back in action at RH Academy tomorrow when they take on Harrogate Town in the Youth Alliance League (11am kick-off).

The team, managed by Steve Chettle and Charlie McParland, began their campaign last Saturday with an action-packed 2-2 draw away at Huddersfield.

Stags’ young guns came from a two goal deficit to secure a point in a contest which saw them record 72 final entries into the opposing box.

Professional phase development coach Steve Chettle said: “It was really frustrating, we played really well.

“We were dominant from the first whistle and should have scored after twelve seconds.

“Bizarrely, we found ourselves 2-0 down at half-time after a first-half which saw us have 15 corners, but couldn’t score. We missed a penalty through McKeal and had another penalty in the second-half which we missed, from Jakub (Kruszynski).

“We scored on 70 minutes and then from another penalty with the last kick of the game.

“Even though the score was frustrating, some of the play was fantastic. The players got what they deserved with their attitude by going right until the end.”

Looking ahead to tomorrow’s first home league game of the season, Steve said: “We’ve already played Harrogate in pre-season and beat them 2-0, with McKeal and Finn Flanagan scoring.

“They won the league last season so they’re a good outfit and I know Josh Law (opposing coach) well. It’ll be a tough game for us.”

All supporters are welcome to attend the game for free at the following venue: RH Academy, Woburn Lane, Mansfield, NG19 7RT.
