Youth preview: Burton v Stags

26 October 2023

Mansfield Town under-18s face Burton Albion tomorrow afternoon at St. George’s Park in the Youth Alliance League (1pm kick-off).

Stags’ scheduled encounter at Hull last Saturday was postponed.

With no game taking place for the under-18s due to bad weather, professional development phase lead coach Steve Chettle used the postponement as an opportunity to watch the under-17s face Forest Green.

“We watched the under-17s play,” he said.

“Forest Green came across and we got some valuable time for the ones who have not been involved in the under-18s fixtures.

“It was good for the ones that have not been playing a lot.”

Stags take on Burton tomorrow afternoon. Ahead of the game, the former Nottingham Forest defender said: “We prepped this week for Burton Albion tomorrow – a Friday fixture is a nice change for us and we’ll plan the weekend differently after that.

“They play a similar shape to what we’ve faced before.

“I’ve not come across Burton this year so it’ll be the first time we’ve played them.

“We always work on the things that we want to work on [and use in games].

“Our strengths in the last few games have been the way that we played and how we tried to create overloads over the pitch so we'll try to work on that again.”

The game will take place at St. George’s Park, England’s training ground.

“I’m sure they’re very excited," speaking ahead of his players' visit.

“The pitches are nice. They're very very good.

“It’s a nice opportunity for the kids to go to the national training centre of England.

“It’s a nice venue for us as away fixtures go.”

Supporters can attend the fixture at the following venue:

Newborough Road, Needwood, Burton-On-Trent, DE13 9PD

The fixture will take place on pitch three.
