Youth preview: Bradford v Stags

28 November 2023

Mansfield Town under-18s face Bradford City tomorrow afternoon in a Youth Alliance League fixture at Horsfall Community Stadium (12pm kick-off).

The youngsters were 4-1 winners last Saturday, defeating Harrogate Town in the U18 Premier League Development League Cup at RH Academy.

Goals from Ronnie Kokkinos, Alfie King, Dan Organ and Oliver Monington ensured Stags romped to a fine victory on home soil.

On Stags’ latest victory, professional development phase lead coach Steve Chettle said: “It was our fourth episode [fixture] against Harrogate and our third victory.

“We’re really pleased. We went 1-0 down after two minutes with their first attempt which wasn’t a great start but even in the first-half I thought we were very good.

“Our play was very good, our possession-based stuff, and in the second-half we scored four really good goals.

“Ronnie Kokkinos, who was outstanding on the day again, and Alfie King scored a super goal.

“Dan Organ who started and played up front [got the third] and Ollie Monington scored his first goal of the season for the under-18s as well. I’m really pleased with the all-round performance and four different scorers again.

“It was really good work from us.”

As the coach turns his attention to tomorrow’s match at Bradford, he added: “[Our preparations have been] A little bit disrupted to be fair.

“We’ve had a couple of injuries and some of the boys are getting back onto the pitch as well.

“We’ve prepped for Bradford tomorrow. In the past they’ve been super strong.

“They’ve been a little inconsistent this season so we’re not sure which Bradford team are going to turn up but we’re looking to carry on with our good form that we’ve set ourselves in the last month.”

On the injury latest, and team news ahead of tomorrow’s contest, the former Premier League defender said: “Louis Bonser is back on the training pitch after a long injury. Him and Cormac Maher are both back.

“We’re still hoping that Alfie King will be fit for tomorrow. Ronnie Kokkinos, Finn Flanagan and McKeal Abdullah all trained with the first team which is another great thing for us.

“We’re looking to get Jakub [Kruszynski] back on the pitch for the first time this season after his hamstring injury [on loan at Ilkeston Town].

“It’s looking good for Christmas, we’ll hopefully get a few bodies back by the end of the Christmas period.”

The fixture will take place at the following venue:

Bradford Park Avenue, Horsfall Stadium, Cemetery Road, Bradford, BD6 2NG
