Youth preview: Stags vs Burton Albion

29 September 2021

Stags' under-18s host Burton Albion under-18s at The RH Academy this weekend as they return to action in the EFL Youth Alliance League.

Mansfield will be looking to make it two wins from two in all competitions following a 2-0 victory over Doncaster Rovers under-18s in the Youth Alliance Cup last Saturday.

Jack Deakin and Diego Edwards scored in either half of the game to send the Stags to the top of Group F.

Mansfield will be hoping to take their cup form into the weekend's clash against the Brewers, after one win, one draw and three defeats to start this season's league campaign.

Burton boast a slightly better record in the league this term, having accumulated six points to Mansfield's four.

The Brewers will be seeking a return to winning ways after four consecutive losses in the league, following two wins in their first two games.

The match will get under way at 11am on Saturday at the following address: The RH Academy, Woburn Lane, Pleasley, Mansfield, NG19 7RT. Spectators are allowed for the fixture and entry to the match is free.

Youth report: Stags 1-0 Burton Albion

4 October 2021

An impressive home performance saw Mansfield Town under-18s win 1-0 against Burton under-18s at The RH Academy on Saturday.

Taylor Anderson’s first-half effort led to the hosts recording their second successive victory.

The Stags posed plenty of attacking threat throughout the game and were perhaps underwhelmed to win by just one goal after creating several opportunities.

Mansfield started well and crafted their first big chance of the game on 22 minutes. A breakdown in communication between the Burton goalkeeper and centre-back led to an opportunity for Oliver Wilson, who fired over.

The amber and blue were rewarded for their early pressure on 28 minutes as they took the lead following a well-worked move. Jonty Bouch switched play to Anderson, who played a neat one-two in the area with Wilson before applying the finish into the bottom left corner.

A long ball forward from Owen Mason found the ever-present Anderson, who floated a cross towards the back post. Burton’s headed clearance fell kindly to Finn Flanagan, who forced a good save from the Brewers’ shot-stopper with his first-time volley.

Burton looked to level the score early in the second-half but a long range strike was watched wide by Mason.

The Stags continued to pose a threat going forward and almost doubled their advantage 20 minutes from time. Wilson, after winning the ball, drove at the Burton defence before firing towards the bottom corner. His accurate strike, however, was saved well by the visiting goalkeeper.

Anderson crossed towards Ben Whelan from a free-kick, who rose well to head just over the crossbar.

Mansfield threatened again from an attack down the left, but Flanagan saw his effort blocked following Darien Wauchope’s cut-back.

The Stags’ next fixture is against Bolton at home on Saturday 09 October.

STAGS' XI: Mason, Anderson, Whelan, Collins (C), Wauchope, Carter, Bouch (Kokkinos 80’), Flanagan, Kruszynski, Edwards, Wilson.

UNUSED SUBS: Turner, Maher, Hamilton, Gomm.
