Youth preview: Stags v Bradford

1 February 2024

Mansfield Town under-18s face Bradford City this Saturday in the Youth Alliance League at RH Academy (11am kick-off).

Stags recorded a superb 1-0 win over Morecambe in their last outing in the Youth Alliance Cup quarter-final.

Midfielder Alfie King provided the winning goal in the first-half in Lancashire.

Professional development phase coach Steve Chettle shared his thoughts on the victory: “[I’m] Really pleased. They were a really good team.

“It was probably one of the best three teams we’ve played this season.

“It was a long trip in the first place to travel to on a tough pitch.

“The boys were immense. It wasn’t just about the way we played football but the character and resilience shown again against a really good team.

“To come away with a 1-0 win and to hang on has got us through to the semi-finals.”

On the key to his side’s fine form, the coach said: “Hard work on the training pitch and being organised and having some real structure.

“When we have opportunities, we take our opportunities to win games.”

Stags host Bradford on Saturday morning at RH Academy.

“It will be another tough game,” he said.

“We drew against them in the last game of the Youth Alliance Cup so they’re really well organised.

“They mix it up with good play and some direct play.

“We have to be organised and ready for a good battle.

“Hopefully, we can come out on top again.”
