Midfielder on 'amazing' season with Stags

23 April 2024

Midfielder Hiram Boateng has reflected on a historic week for the club after Stags sealed promotion to League One for the first time in over two decades.

The 28-year-old is celebrating his second promotion to football’s third tier – following a triumph with Cambridge United in 2021.

Mansfield clinched promotion with a 2-1 victory at home to Accrington last Tuesday.
Reflecting on the week, Boateng told iFollow Stags: “It’s been an amazing week.

“It’s been a brilliant week for the club and all the fans. I think we’ve worked so hard to get across the line and to do it with a couple of games to spare has been brilliant.

“It’s been amazing, honestly. The key thing I had in my mind since joining the club was knowing that the club was going in the right direction of getting promoted and to do it in my second season is brilliant. It’s been amazing and I love playing for the club. My team-mates have brilliant this year, so I’ve enjoyed it massively.

“It’s been good. After the weekend, some of us got together with our families. It’s important we show how much we appreciate them as well. It’s always nice to thank the supporters, and have your family with you. Those are the people who support you throughout the season so it’s a nice moment.
“It’s been really good to celebrate it and have a bit of fun as well.”

Boateng was amongst the squad which was given a standing-ovation on Sunday night in the club’s new marquee as Stags celebrated promotion at the Annual Awards Dinner.

“It was bouncing in there. It was good to see everyone relax. We’ve worked so hard this season and haven’t had the opportunity to let our hair down… though I haven’t got much! It was really good to get everyone together and celebrate it under one roof.”

Boateng says it’s now the club’s aim to end the season with maximum points as the squad prepare for a trip to Barrow this Saturday following last weekend’s comeback win at home to Gillingham.

“The gaffer let us know how important it was, heading into the last two games, to win. It is important to keep those standards up and go into the new season off the back of good results. Regardless of what we’ve achieved, we want to continue to win football matches.”

He added: “Whenever I’m called upon I’m always ready to do the job for this team and club. As long as I keep getting an opportunity I’ll keep doing that.”
