Youth preview: Lincoln v Stags

29 September 2023

Mansfield Town under-18s travel to Lincoln City this Saturday in the Youth Alliance League (11am kick-off).

Stags’ young guns head into the fixture following a 2-0 win over Doncaster Rovers last Saturday and sit fifth in the table having recorded two wins, two losses and a draw.

Forward McKeal Abdullah hit the double in an impressive win for the side.

Speaking to mansfieldtown.net about the match and Abdullah’s brace, professional development phase lead coach Steve Chettle said: “It was a very competitive game and had a bit of an edge to it. It was a proper aggressive game.

“We were very pleased that we came out on top with two goals from Mikey and it was a good day for us.

“He [Abdullah] scored against Notts County in the Central League the other week and was back in the team last weekend because he wasn’t involved in the senior group. He scored another two goals and as long as he keeps scoring goals the gaffer (Nigel Clough) is going to keep an eye on him which is good for us.”

On opponents Lincoln, Steve said: “They come off the back of beating Harrogate so we have to be at our best again.

“The under-17s had a game at Grimsby in mid-week and won that one as well, so we’re looking to continue this mini-run that we’ve had and come away with three points in the league again.”

Supporters can watch the game free of charge at the following venue: Heath Lane, Scampton, Lincoln, LN2 3PU
