Commanding defender Aden Flint has hailed today’s derby day victory as ‘an ideal afternoon’ as Stags beat Notts County 4-1 at Meadow Lane.
The colossal centre-half scored goal number three in Stags’ rout - and his first of the season - as Mansfield extended their unbeaten run to 17 matches.
Flint, who signed in the summer, told iFollow Stags: “I’m obviously delighted. It was important that we got the three points, which puts us in good stead heading into next week now and the unbeaten run continues which is nice.
“Everyone’s buzzing. You always want the bragging rights in a local derby and we’ve got that today with a convincing scoreline.
“It’s a professional performance. We knew Notts County would have possession. They have a good manager in Luke Williams, I’ve worked with him before and knew what it was going to be about.
“They stick to their guns and try and play, which is fair enough but we knew what we had to do to nullify that, and we did that; and I think it shows in the scoreline.”
Stags conceded an early goal but then roared back to claim maximum points.
“We started a little bit sloppy, which we’re disappointed about,” said Flint.
“[In the] First ten minutes we tried to get a bit of composure and a foothold in the game and I think we did that.
“Once we got the equaliser there was only one team that were going to go on and win it. After half-time, we were unbelievable in the second-half with our press and we did our press at the right times.”
Flint said the day was a perfect afternoon, while reflecting also on his first Stags’ goal.
“It’s an ideal Saturday. It’s about time I got a goal to be honest. It’s been coming but I’m just happy with the three points in the end.
“I know how much it means to the fans this game. They’ve come out in good numbers, nearly 4,000, and it’s great to send them home with a victory. They’ve got behind us all throughout the season.”
