Youth preview: Stags v Grimsby

2 November 2023

Mansfield Town under-18s host Grimsby Town this Saturday at RH Academy (11am kick-off).

The contest is FREE for supporters to attend at: Woburn Lane, Mansfield NG19 7RT

Stags were 1-0 winners against Burton Albion in their last outing. Midfielder Callum Johnson netted as Mansfield defeated the previously-unbeaten Brewers at St. George’s Park.

On the encounter, professional development phase lead coach Steve Chettle said: “It was a fantastic day for us.

“To be at the national training centre and play at St. George’s and against a team that had not been beaten all season was a great win.

“We weren’t great in all honesty regarding our overall performance, but the spirit and tenacity we showed to come away with a 1-0 win was very very pleasing.”

On Saturday’s upcoming match with Grimsby Town, the coach added: “We’ve done our due diligence as normal but we’re looking to continue with the work rate that has got us into the position that we are at the moment.

“Hard work and trying to play as simple as we can but be as effective possible in all areas of the pitch [is what we’ll look to do].”

Stags’ under-18s have been drawn at home to Derby County in the FA Youth Cup first round on Friday 10 November (7pm kick-off). The match will take place at One Call Stadium and supporters can buy tickets now by clicking here.

“The whole football club is in a great place at the minute.

“The first team are doing so well and we’ve got people who are training with the first team.

“Even our under-17s like midfielder Ollie Taylor has been training with the first team.

“[The FA Youth Cup game] Is a great opportunity to see the next set of superstars for the Stags.”
