Youth preview: Rochdale v Stags

2 September 2022

Mansfield Town under-19s face Rochdale away tomorrow in the Youth Alliance Cup (11.30am kick-off).

The youngsters have begun the 2022/23 campaign brightly.

Mansfield’s first game in the Youth Alliance Cup ended in dramatic fashion with midfielder Alfie King and forward Louis Bonser turning the Stags’ encounter with Burton Albion on its head with a goal each after being brought on at half-time to win the match 2-1.

Bonser’s match-winner was despatched in injury time in what was a positive display for the young guns, who will aim to continue their fine development in another cup clash away at Rochdale tomorrow.

Midfielder Alfie King has scored two in his last two matches. The creative playmaker has caught the eye in recent weeks.

Goalkeeper Theo Avery, named captain of the under-19s by his peers, was again involved in the first team squad’s warm-up at One Call Stadium in midweek. The shot-stopper joined experienced pros Christy Pym and Scott Flinders as the ‘keepers were put through their paces ahead of the Stags’ Papa Johns Trophy win over Manchester City under-21s.

The Youth Alliance Cup encounter, played at Hyde United Football Club, will be available for supporters to attend.

The venue for the match is: Hyde United FC, SK14 5PL (4G).
