Train information ahead of Wembley Final

26 May 2022

East Midlands Railway have provided the following information for supporters travelling by train to London this Saturday:

Trains between Nottingham and London are expected to be extremely busy as both Play-Off Finals at Wembley on Saturday (Sky Bet League Two) and Sunday (Sky Bet Championship) feature teams on the East Midlands Railway network.

Thousands of supporters are expected to travel to and from London on both days.

Travelling for the Football

As you would expect, trains from Nottingham and Mansfield are set to be much busier than usual this weekend so we've relaxed some of our ticket restrictions to give you options to get to Wembley and back.

Options to consider

  1. Consider travelling from Chesterfield- On Saturday, tickets from Mansfield and Mansfield Woodhouse will be valid on our Chesterfield - London trains which avoid the crowds at Nottingham.

    b. Consider travelling from/via Kettering - If you live slightly further south consider travelling from or changing trains at Kettering. Kettering benefits from a direct service to London St Pancras every 30 minutes and typically have more seats than trains originating from Nottingham.

  2. Consider travelling from/to Derby - If you have a ticket from/to Nottingham it will be accepted on board trains from/to Derby instead. These trains are expected to be less busy than those to/from Nottingham.

After the match on Sunday, we've ensured that we are running as many carriages as possible on trains leaving London St Pancras, providing an additional 1,300 seats. In addition, our 2032 London St Pancras to Derby service will call additionally at Nottingham on the way to Derby.

Do not leave it too late to travel back home. The very last train towards Nottingham departs London St Pancras at 23:22 but we advise that you travel back earlier. It's likely that the last train will be extremely popular and possibly too busy to board.
