Youth preview: Burton v Stags

15 December 2022

Mansfield Town under-19s are back in action this Friday for a Youth Alliance League fixture against Burton Albion at St. George’s Park (1pm kick-off).

The young Stags will head into the fixture against the Brewers off the back of a 3-3 draw against Lincoln City on 03 December.

Last weekend’s Youth Alliance Cup fixture against Salford City was postponed due to a frozen pitch.

Ahead of Friday’s fixture with Burton, PDP lead coach Sam Collins spoke to www.mansfieldtown.net, and said: “It should be a good game. We’ve played them a couple of times already this season and both have been good games so we’re expecting it to be the same [tomorrow].”

Sub-zero temperatures have had an effect nationwide within the last week.

“We’re really lucky with the facilities that we’ve got [at RH Academy meaning we can still train at a high standard].

“The game got called off on Saturday [against Salford City due to a frozen pitch] which was frustrating for everyone.”

Stags’ forward McKeal Abdullah and defender Taylor Anderson have been in fine form lately. Speaking on the youngsters, Sam said: “I’m really pleased with McKeal, he’s playing really well and scoring goals.

“I’ve been delighted with how Taylor has done since he’s come back. He seems to be getting stronger and stronger the more games he plays.

“It’s hard to single people out at the moment because they’re all doing so well.”

As ever, all supporters are welcome to attend the game for FREE at the following venue: St. George’s Park, Newborough Road, Needwood, Burton upon Trent, Staffordshire, DE13 9PD.
