Swan happy with performance in Stockport comeback

20 August 2022

Flying frontman Will Swan believes this afternoon’s performance against Stockport County was his best at senior level.

The 21-year-old, on loan from Nottingham Forest, scored one and played a part in the other as Stags came from behind for the second time in a week to beat the newly-promoted Hatters.

Swan put in a virtuoso performance in attack, chasing lost causes and tormenting the visiting defence with his electrifying pace.

His display - only hi 17th at first team level - contributed towards Stags’ 100% record at home in the league this season.

Speaking to iFollow Stags after the game, he said: “It’s hands down my best performance.

“I think it is something that comes with experience. The more games you play, the more confident you get.
“The trust the gaffer is putting in me is really helping with that [confidence].

“It is good to be playing games in the league more than anything, gaining experience and developing as a player.

“I thought I gave their centre-halves problems, using my pace and getting in behind. I thought they had a hard time dealing with that.

"I scored a goal and was part of the build up for the second, so I can’t complain.”

When asked about his qualities on the field, including his never-say-die approach to games, he said: “It is something I have always done.

“If the ball is still on the pitch I am going to run after it, especially if I think there is a chance, I am going to get a goal from it.

“It is how I like to play.”

Summing up the team’s display, he said: “I think we dominated the game. We created the better chances.
“It was an unfortunate goal to concede, as there was not much we could do about it.

“When we got that first goal back, that gave everyone the boost we needed to go and get the second
“To bounce back the way we did, as quickly as we did, was top class.”
