Former Academy midfielder enrolled at Loughborough University

21 August 2022

Former Academy midfielder Jonty Bouch has been accepted onto a football scholarship and business degree course at the prestigious Loughborough University, the club are pleased to announce.

The 18-year-old, who left the Academy at the end of last season, has taken the next step to further his education and football career with the help of the club’s Academy.

Jonty spent two years as a scholar at the club’s Category 3 Academy.

Sports performance coach/Head of education, Tom Chapman, said: “The Academy places much emphasis of the importance of education within the Academy as well as progressing individual players within the football environment. It’s important to acquire a good balance between the two.

“Jonty’s hard work has got him to where he is, with the support of the club, and this is a fantastic opportunity for him to progress within a highly-regarded university.

“Many of the players on the above-mentioned course will be from Category 1 and 2 academies, so from the perspective of both football and education, he’s done extremely well to be enrolled.

“The business degree will open paths to potential business management opportunities and he may then even study a Master’s degree within this discipline.

“On the football side, this next step could open more doors into professional football or good-standing non-league clubs.”

Tom added: “We’re really proud of Jonty and we were only too pleased to assist him in getting enrolled.

“I have assisted in the education side, whilst Richard Cooper (Academy manager) has helped in the football aspects of the application.

“We care much about the career prospects of our players, past and present, and this is an example of how the Academy helps in expanding opportunities for individuals.”
