An anonymous supporter has generously purchased a season ticket and scarf for a young fan.
The benefactor, who has asked only to be referenced to as ‘Wilfred’ from the independent fans’ message board StagsNet, made the purchase for Alfie Battiste following a request for nominations.
It means that the 11-year-old will be able to watch all the Stags’ home league fixtures this season in the lower tier of the Ian Greaves Stand.
Alfie’s mum, Kerry Battiste, said: “I would just like to thank the fellow Stags’ supporter for giving Alfie the chance to experience professional football which he had never had before. He is thoroughly enjoying going to every match and it enables us to have a bit of mum and son time.
“I also want to say a huge thank you to Craig Foster who nominated Alfie as he knows how awful the past couple of years have been.”
Stags’ chief executive officer David Sharpe said: “This is a very kind act of generosity and goodwill.
“To purchase a season ticket and a scarf for a younger supporter is something that Alfie will remember for a lifetime and it is heartening to see a gesture of such selflessness.
“Thank you to the anonymous supporter and we hope that Alfie enjoys our home games at One Call Stadium this season.”
