Mansfield Town under-18s are back in EFL Youth Alliance action on Saturday morning, against local rivals Notts County at the RH Academy.
After the Stags recorded a statement 3-1 win over Burton Albion on Tuesday, their tough start to 2021 continues with the visit of second-placed Notts County.
As is tradition, the two clubs will compete for the Matt Salmon Trophy, to honour the late academy physiotherapist who passed away in 2017.
Salmon spent three-and-a-half years in the Stags’ medical department and previously completed work experience with County.
The two sides' last meeting came back in November 2019, when the Mansfield youngsters sealed the home and away double with a 2-1 win.
Those results saw the Stags first regain, then retain the trophy, and a win or draw on Saturday will see them keep hold of the crown.
Whatever the result, a small, socially distanced presentation will take place following the full-time whistle.
And whoever does take home the trophy will face an almost instant defence of it, as the reverse fixture in Nottingham takes place just ten days later.
One Stag that should be well versed from the off though is Diego Edwards, who previously played for the Magpies.
The first-year scholar will look to continue his fine scoring streak, which has seen him net in four consecutive fixtures, against his former side.
The visitors, though, have also been impressive in front of goal. This month's results consist of a 4-1 win and 4-3 loss against Burton and Scunthorpe United respectively.
County had been in a strong vein of form before that though, winning four consecutive matches in the league.
That sees Saturday's visitors sitting nine points ahead of the Stags, having played two matches more.
A Mansfield win could see them rise as high as fourth, should other results fall in their favour.
Saturday's match has a kick-off time of 11am and will be played behind-closed-doors.
