Youth preview: Bradford City vs Stags

22 January 2020

Mansfield Town under-18s will resume their league campaign on Saturday, when they travel to West Yorkshire to take on Bradford City (11am kick-off).

The Stags last featured in the Youth Alliance Northeast Division in their hard-fought victory over Notts County back in December.

Since then, attentions switched to the FA Youth Cup, where the young guns defied the odds to reach round four.

The amber and blue saw off two League One sides and one Championship outfit, before eventually bowing out to Premier League Burnley last week.

Three goals inside 10 first half minutes gave the Stags too much to do against the top-flight Clarets but Mansfield didn’t exit the competition without a fight, performing valiantly in the second period.

The last time these two sides met was on 12 October 2019, with the Bantams earning the win with a 3-1 victory at the RH Academy.

Following the end of their FA Youth Cup journey, under-18s coach Mike Whitlow is looking forward to the resumption of their league campaign.

“We’re back to the league now, which gives the lads the chance to get back to the nitty gritty and work hard again, get some performances and hopefully try and earn a professional contract”, he said.

As ever, supporters are welcome to attend the game free of charge at the following venue: Rawdon Meadows Playing Fields, Woodhouse Grove School, Apperley Lane, Bradford, BD10 ONR.
