Youth preview: Rotherham United vs Stags (Youth Alliance Cup)

2 October 2019

Our under-18s are back in action this Saturday, when they travel to Rotherham to continue their Youth Alliance Cup campaign (10.30am kick-off).

The Stags go into their clash with the Millers in fine form after recording five straight victories in all competitions, a run that has seen them climb to the top of the Youth Alliance league table.

Last time out, the amber and blue had to battle back from a goal down to defeat last season’s league champions Grimsby Town.

Goals either side of half-time from Shamar Lawson and Nathan Saunders were enough to see off the Mariners, who took the lead through Lennon Stead.

The victory saw the young guns leapfrog this Saturday’s opponents to the top of the table, after the Millers could only draw at Burton Albion.

Mansfield suffered their only league defeat of the season when they visited Roundwood earlier in the campaign.

Despite a strong second-half performance after conceding early on to a Jerome Greaves strike, the Stags were beaten in South Yorkshire.

The visitors squandered several chances to take a deserved, including a penalty.

The young guns will now be looking to avenge that loss on Saturday, as they look to continue their fine form in league and cup.

Supporters are welcome to attend this Saturday’s match, which kicks off at 10.30am at the following venue: Roundwood Sports Complex, Green Lane, Rawmarsh, Rotherham S62 6LA.
