Youth preview: Stags vs Bradford

9 October 2019

Mansfield Town under-18s will be looking to make it five successive league victories when they host Bradford City under-18s at the RH Academy on Saturday (12pm kick-off).

The Stags have risen to the top of the Youth Alliance standings, a point clear of second placed Doncaster Rovers, and will be looking to cement their place at the summit this weekend.

Last time out, the young guns suffered defeat against Rotherham United in the Youth Alliance Cup. Goals from Ethan Hill and Shamar Lawson were not enough to claim a draw as the Millers ran out 3-2 winners.

The Bantams have endured a difficult start to the season with three defeats and a draw in their five league outings.

The Stags will still need to be wary though, as Bradford claimed all three points the last time they visited a table-topping side, in their 2-0 success against Doncaster Rovers.

The amber and blue were beaten 2-1 when the two sides met at the RH Academy in April.

Despite Stags' recent good form, youth coach Simon Ward has challenged the players to perform for the full 90 minutes following last Saturday’s defeat.

“We need to be at it right from the start and we weren’t against Rotherham”, said Ward.

“The lads need to look at themselves deep down and realise the game is 90 minutes. We’ll regroup and hopefully give a better account of ourselves next time around”, he said.

Supporters can attend the game for free at the following venue: The RH Academy, Woburn Lane, Mansfield, NG19 7RT.
