Youth preview: Stags vs Huddersfield Town

27 November 2019

Our under-18s are in action this Saturday when they face Huddersfield Town at the RH Academy (11:30am kick-off).

The Stags have enjoyed a strong run of form recently and will look to carry this on against The Terriers this weekend.

In their last fixture, a second half fight back saw Mansfield Town beat local rivals Notts County at Highfield Sports Complex.

The young guns trailed at half time through Corey Bucalossi’s strike, but Joshua Scott equalised before Ryan Ingram won the game with just six minutes remaining.

Youth team coach Mike Whitlow was full of praise for his charges after a hard-fought derby win.

He said: “It was a tough battle, there was some really good football from both teams. Credit to Notts County, nobody was really on top and it was very even in midfield.

“Both defences did a really good job of dealing with some good crosses into the box and both ‘keepers made good saves.

“The most pleasing thing is that we were creating chances and that the lads once again gave absolutely everything.

“The midfield got on the front foot in the second half and that was key. When you’re losing second balls it can really put you up against it.”

The Terriers were narrowly beaten by Scunthorpe United in their last outing, falling to a 3-2 defeat. They sit eight in the current Youth Alliance standings.

The last time the two sides met, a late fight back saw the amber and blue claim their first victory of the campaign at Canalside Sports Complex.

After falling behind in West Yorkshire, Scott equalised with four minutes to play before Jimmy Knowles completed the turnaround with virtually the last kick of the game.

As ever, all supporters are welcome to attend the game for free at the following venue: The RH Academy, Woburn Lane, Mansfield, NG19 7RT.
