Youth preview: Stags vs Carlisle United

6 November 2019

Our under-18s are in action this Friday when they face Carlisle United in their final group game of the Youth Alliance Cup at The RH Academy (6pm).

The Stags will go into the contest off the back of a hard-earned three points against Burton Albion last Friday.

A brace from Shamar Lawson and a second-half Rio Molyneaux strike was enough to see off the Brewers at St George’s Park in a 3-2 win.

Mansfield will now switch their attention to the Youth Alliance Cup where they face Carlisle United on home turf.

The Cumbrians have lost both of their outings in the competition so far and suffered defeat in their last league match, going down 3-1 at home to Preston North End, so will be hoping for a turn of fortunes on Friday evening.

Youth team coach Mike Whitlow was full of praise for his side’s performance after their recent victory over Burton Albion.

“We worked hard and stuck together, there were some tired legs, but they were a credit,” he said in his post-match interview.

“We’ll have learned not to put ourselves under pressure with [conceding] sloppy goals and that when we’re on top to keep on top. Don’t give impetus to the other team, lock up the defence and see the game out.”

Supporters can attend the game - which kicks off at 6pm - free of charge at the following venue: The RH Academy, Woburn Lane, Mansfield, NG19 7RT.
