On Monday 08 April, the first of our 16 SSE Wildcats sessions will take place, aimed at aspiring young female footballers aged five to 11.
The scheme will run for 16 consecutive weeks, with sessions taking place every Monday from 6pm-7pm at One Call Stadium, at a price of just £3 per session.
Ladies’ director Allan Woodfield described the sessions in further detail, explaining what attendees can expect from the programme.
“We have sessions running for five to 11 year olds, as we have been given a licence by the FA to run an SSE Wildcats Centre,” he said.
“It’s all about engaging the girls into the sport. Last year we ran it and it was really successful. It’s about learning new skills and also making new friends.
“We have some really good coaches and some [ladies’] players as well that are going to come down. So there’s a whole range of things going on.
“We’ll be looking at the fundamentals of the game to start with, but we’ll do it by putting on fun and engaging sessions.
“It’s a happy environment where everyone can come along, have fun and play the game.”
Woodfield also spoke of how the growing participation levels in the women’s game will only help Mansfield Town.
“We’ve seen the ladies game grow, not just at this club but at clubs in the surrounding areas, too,” he added. “We’ve really seen a rise in participation levels.
“The club is going to get bigger and better because of this. The whole club is now structured to create a pathway from our under-8s right through to our first team.
“We’ve already seen players that have come through from our under-16s to play in the first team.
“That shows that we are producing the players and the talent within the club.”
