Youth preview: Lincoln City vs Stags

17 January 2019

Stags' under-18s travel to face Lincoln City under-18s this Saturday at the Priory City of Lincoln Academy for an EFL Youth Alliance clash (11am kick-off).

Mansfield come into the game in exceptional form, having won their last five games in the league - their most recent result being a convincing 4-0 win over Oldham Athletic.

Jimmy Knowles netted the opener in the game, before James Tague's splendid strike and Riley O'Sullivan's brace saw John Dempster's side race into a 4-0 lead with only 16 minutes played.

Stags dominated proceedings from there on out, holding firm in defence, whilst continuously threatening to add to their goal tally.

The win meant Stags currently occupy first position in the league table and are the league's top scorers with 32 goals in 13 matches.

This, combined with having kept three clean sheets in their last four league encounters, will give John Dempster's side every belief that they can take all three points this coming weekend.

However, Lincoln will certainly be no pushovers. They come into the fixture following an impressive 1-0 win away against Burton Albion, and are currently positioned towards the top end of the table, lying in sixth place, with games in hand on the teams above.

The last time these two teams met in September, Stags had to fight to earn a 3-3 draw, with Tyrese Sinclair netting a last-gasp equaliser for his side with the final kick of the game. Rhys Sarson also found the net in the match, with Sinclair scoring two.

We welcome all supporters to attend the fixture, and full details of the venue can be found here: Priory City of Lincoln Academy, Skellingthorpe Road, Lincoln, LN6 0EP.
