Minute's applause for former player in Tranmere game

25 January 2019

The club invites supporters to join us in applause in the 79th minute of tomorrow's match at home to Tranmere, in memory of former player Jimmy McGowan, who died recently. He was 79.

Jimmy, a right winger, played three games for the Stags in 1961-62.

Born in Glasgow on 31 July 1939, he signed for the club from St Johnstone in June 1961.

Nine months later he moved on to Burton Albion.

A keen golfer he settled in Mansfield when his playing career ended and died in Kings Mill Hospital on 06 January 2019.

We send our condolences to Jimmy's family at this sad time.

The club will also hold a minute's silence prior to kick-off for Cardiff City player Emiliano Sala and pilot David Ibbotson, following the news that the active search for the duo has ended.

The thoughts of everyone at Mansfield Town are with the family and friends of Emiliano Sala and pilot Dave Ibbotson, as well as those at Cardiff City and FC Nantes at this difficult time.
