Youth preview: Doncaster Rovers vs Stags

27 September 2018

Stags’ under-18s travel to face Doncaster Rovers’ under-18s on Saturday in a top-of-the-table clash at Cantley Park in the EFL Youth Alliance (11am kick-off).

Mansfield come into the game following back-to-back wins in the league, having beaten Oldham Athletic 3-1, before defeating Rotherham United 3-2 last time out.

A first-half Lewis Davis header gave Stags the lead against the Millers, followed by a sensational Tyrese Sinclair free-kick and a Rhys Sarson effort, which gave the Stags all three points.

Sarson has now scored in each of his last three games for the Stags, and will be hoping to carry his excellent form into the weekend’s fixture.

John Dempster’s side currently find themselves second in the table, with 11 points from six games, and boasting the best offensive record in the league, with 14 goals.

However, whilst his side have had no trouble finding the net, the youth boss has expressed the importance of clean sheets – and having only had one shut-out so far this campaign – he will be looking for improvements amongst the defensive ranks.

Doncaster, come into the weekend’s game undefeated in the league and are the only side above the Stags in the table, currently sitting top of the pile. They are level on points with the Stags, but have a superior goal difference, and a game-in-hand.

Saturday’s fixture is likely to provide a real test for Mansfield, and it will be down to the players to up their game against an in-form opposition.

All fans are welcome to watch the match, and for those wishing to attend the game, full address details can be found below: Cantley Park (off Ascot Avenue), Cantley, Doncaster, DN4 6HE.
