Midfielder labels Stags' performance as perfect after 4-0 win

29 September 2018

Midfielder Timi Elsnik believes the Stags showcased a perfect performance as they secured a 4-0 victory against Northampton Town.

The Slovenian grasped his first league start with both hands as he opened the scoring at One Call Stadium inside six minutes with an outstanding individual effort.

His goal was followed up by a brace from Danny Rose and CJ Hamilton's finish in the second-half, as well as a clean sheet, to give the Stags maximum points from this afternoon's outing.

Elsnik labelled the performance as 'perfect' in all aspects, airing expected positivity during his post-match interview.

ā€œI think we were excellent both attacking and defending,ā€ he began.

ā€œTheir ā€˜keeper made so many good saves. We could have had so many goals today but ours [Olejnik] only had one save to make, I think. [It was a] perfect performance from everyone.

ā€œA win is a win – we’re happy with the three points and now we have to look forward to Tuesday.ā€

The 20-year-old then reflected on his superb individual performance, during which he netted his first goal in a yellow and blue jersey.

ā€œYeah it was [a great goal] I agree with you,ā€ he said, jokingly.

ā€œIt’s a special feeling to have scored my first goal here in front of the fans and to get the win.

ā€œFirst five minutes they have a corner and we break on them. Luckily it went in and I think it set the tone for the whole game. We were comfortable and when the second goal went in they almost crumbled.

ā€œIt was a fantastic effort from everybody at Mansfield Town Football Club.ā€

Finally, the midfielder wrapped up as he set out his targets for his stint in Mansfield.

ā€œI scored so I’m happy with that but there’s always areas to improve.

ā€œI think the first 20 minutes I was a bit erratic with the ball and after that I settled down, just played my game so I’m going to learn from that and help my team get wins.

ā€œThat’s why I came here – to get games, get goals, get wins and get promotion.

ā€œWhen we look at the table we know where we want to be but we have to get wins so that’s what we’ll try to do.ā€
