Youth preview: Grimsby Town vs Stags

18 October 2018

Stags' under-18s are in league action this Saturday when they make the trip to face Grimsby Town under-18s in the EFL Youth Alliance League (11am kick-off).

The two sides met a fortnight ago in the Youth Alliance Cup, with Mansfield coming out on top in a 2-1 win.

Jimmy Knowles and James Tague were the scorers on the day, as their goals helped Stags overturn a first half goal from the visitors, giving Mansfield all three points in Group Four of the competition.

Last time out, Stags were denied by a 90th minute goal from Bradley Fox, as they lost 3-2 against Hartlepool United at the RH Academy.

Right-back Larrell King and forward Rhys Sarson netted for the Stags in the first fixture to take place at the new training facility, which is set to be officially opened soon.

Grimsby’s only defeat of the season so far has been the 2-1 loss against the Stags, and the Mariners remain unbeaten in the league having won two and drawn three of their opening five fixtures.

They currently occupy ninth in the table, but do have games in hand on the teams above them.

Stags meanwhile have 11 points from their opening eight games, and sit fifth in the table.

John Dempster’s side have been clinical in front of goal this campaign, and boast the best offensive record in the league with 18 goals.

Supporters wishing to attend Saturday's match can do so at the following address: The Training Ground, Cheapside, Waltham, Grimsby, DN37 0HT.

Refreshments will be available for spectators in the main building before, during and after the game.
