Stags' loanees gaining valuable experience

17 October 2018

Read up on how five of Stags' players have performed recently in their respective loan spells.

Sam Wilson - St. Ives Town

Goalkeeper Sam Wilson has been an active member of the Saints' side since he joined the club last month. The 'keeper started in St. Ives' third round qualifying match against York City, who unfortunately brought the historic cup run to an end after emerging as 3-0 victors.

Wilson was hugely responsible for the Saints' progression to the third qualifying round, the first time they achieved this feat in the club's 131 year history, as he made a string of fine saves to preserve his side’s clean sheet against Saffron Walden in the first qualifying round. In the replay, Wilson was once again heavily involved as St. Ives earned a 3-1 victory.

One round later, he once again kept a clean sheet, this time in a replay fixture away to Grantham Town, making several impressive stops in a 2-0 win.

Zayn Hakeem - Coalville Town

Forward Zayn Hakeem recently joined Coalville Town on loan, following his earlier loan spell at Basford United.

The striker made his debut for the club on Saturday, coming off the bench in the narrow 2-1 loss against Needham Market.

In the Ravens' next fixture against Harborough Town in the Leicestershire Challenge Cup on Tuesday evening, Hakeem started and scored twice in what ended up being a resounding 9-2 victory for Coalville.

Teddy Bloor - Frickley Athletic

Defender Teddy Bloor started in Frickley's 2-1 win over Spalding United on Saturday 06 October, but was replaced after 43 minutes after picking up a knock.

Bloor also started the previous games against Lincoln United and Gresley, but is yet to feature since being subsitituted during the win over Spalding.

Alistair Smith - Frickley Athletic

Dynamic midfielder Alistair Smith has also spent the last few weeks on loan at Frickley Athletic, but has seen his game time limited due to injury.

The midfielder was heavily involved at Frickley before his injury, as he starred in the 5-4 victory over Cleethorpes in the Integro League Cup, scoring twice in the match.

Smith’s first goal was a fine finish inside the area, which was followed up by a strike from distance into the bottom corner, leading to him being awarded the man of the match award on the Frickley website.

Kane Baldwin - Coleshill Town

Defender Kane Baldwin joined Evo-Stik Southern League side Coleshill Town on loan last month.

Baldwin was named as a substitute for Coleshill's recent Birmingham Senior Cup clash against Aston Villa, and was also named on the bench for the matches against AFC Dunstable and Tamworth.

The defender could next feature for Coleshill in their home fixture against Aylesbury United at home this Saturday.
