Youth preview: Stags vs Huddersfield

7 November 2018

Stags’ under-18s host Huddersfield Town under-18s this Saturday in a Youth Alliance League match at The RH Academy (12pm kick-off).

Stags’ last outing saw them produce a dramatic turnaround against Grimsby Town, fighting back from two goals down to win the game 3-2.

Tyrese Sinclair, Rhys Sarson and Riley O’Sullivan all got on the scoresheet for the amber and blue, and remarkably, it was the seventh time in just 13 games that Stags have managed to score three or more goals in a game this season.

In addition to that, not once this year have John Dempster’s side failed to find the net in a match, with 31 goals in all competitions already this season.

Jimmy Knowles leads the way in the scoring charts with eight goals to his name, closely followed by Tyrese Sinclair who has seven.

However, the manager has been calling for some improvements to be made as a defensive unit - having kept just one clean sheet so far this season. Saturday will provide another opportunity for our young guns to demonstrate that they are equally capable when it comes to the defensive side of the game.

Whilst Stags currently occupy third place in the league, Saturday’s opponents Huddersfield prop-up the bottom of the table, with four points from their opening seven games.

Huddersfield were beaten 4-1 by Lincoln City last time out, yet recorded an impressive 3-0 victory over Notts County back in September.

All supporters are welcome to attend the game, and for those wishing to come down, please see full details of the venue here: The RH Academy, Woburn Lane, Mansfield, NG19 7RT.
