Youth preview: Stags vs Scunthorpe United

7 March 2018

Mansfield Town's under 18s can extend their lead at the top of the EFL Youth Alliance table this Saturday when they take on Scunthorpe United at Rainworth Miners Welfare (kick-off 11.00am).

Last week's adverse weather meant the scheduled top of the table clash between the Stags and third-placed Oldham Athletic was postponed.

The Lancashire club are not in action until later in the day, so Mansfield can, briefly, go six points clear of the Latics and four points ahead of second-placed Rotherham United.

Last time out, Stags recorded an impressive 4-2 home win against in-form York City with two goals from Riley O'Sullivan, a penalty from Keaton Ward and a fierce drive from Nyle Blake.

Mansfield have won seven and drawn one of their last eight EFL Youth Alliance games, conceding just three goals in the process.

Scunthorpe come into the game on a wretched run of form, with one draw and seven defeats in their last nine games.

They find themselves tenth in the table having scored eighteen goals all season, the joint third lowest in the division.

The Iron were dumped out of the FA Youth Cup by Premier League opposition, losing 4-0 to Chelsea, and finished bottom of their EFL Youth Alliance Cup group.

Stags will be favourites and when the two teams last met in April 2017, Mansfield won 1-0.

For fans wishing to attend the game, admission is priced at £3. Food and beverages will be available, and parking is free around the ground.
