Stags' defender Rhys Bennett has revealed that he knew from day one that David Flitcroft was the right appointment, after being left 'wowed' by the boss' first training session.
Bennett has been an integral part of the Stags’ defence this season, forming solid partnerships with Krystian Pearce and Zander Diamond respectively.
Flitcroft's Stags currently find themselves seven points shy of third-placed Wycombe in the table and have a game in hand over some of their promotion rivals.
Speaking ahead of Good Friday’s big match with high-flying Accrington Stanley, the defender was full of praise for the new Stags’ boss.
"From his first day you can just tell [that he was the right appointment]," he said. "The word I went home with from his first training session was ‘wow.’"
"Obviously it’s difficult to come in at this stage of the season, but, having said that, we feel like we’re going to go on a run and win games of football under him."
Bennett also commented on the fresh ideas that Flitcroft has brought to One Call Stadium, and feels that it is only a matter of time before the new system clicks for the Stags.
"Training’s been good, it’s been productive. We’re trying as hard as we can as a group to get the gaffer's ideas and put them into place on the football pitch," he added.
"He’s implemented a different style of play - I think you can see that - especially in the first-half on Saturday [against Forest Green].
"Obviously it’s difficult to come in at this stage of the season, but, having said that, we feel like we’re going to go on a run and win games of football under him.
"We have full confidence that he is the guy to do it for us and we're looking forward to it."
The club are hoping for a bumper crowd at One Call Stadium for Friday's match, and Bennett hopes Stags' performance will galvanise the home fans.
"Good Friday games are normally very special in terms of crowd and atmosphere.
"We’re looking forward to a good atmosphere, and hopefully a good performance.
"The buzz word is excitement. We always have to look forward to the next game and show what we can do.
"Good teams bounce back, so we’re looking forward to bouncing back and getting a positive result."
