Former Stags' managers join lineup for fan-led event

14 June 2018

Former Stags' managers Paul Cox and Adam Murray have joined the line-up for ‘Legends Live’ – a fan-organised event which will act as a fundraiser for the Alzheimer’s Society and to raise awareness of Dementia.

The evening, which also brings back 00’s goal-scoring hero Richie Barker along with more club legends to be announced soon, will take place in the Sandy Pate Sports Bar on Friday 27 July at 8.00pm, with FREE entry for Stags' fans.

Cox delivered promotion as champions of the Conference in 2013, in just his second season as Stags' manager, leading Mansfield back into the Football League after a five-year absence.

He joined the club in the summer of 2011 and started a revival of the playing and coaching staff, leading Mansfield to the play-offs in his first season at the helm.

The event has been arranged by supporters' podcast 'Mansfield Matters,' and will be led by the podcast's host, Craig Priest.

Speaking on the announcement of former Stags' boss Cox, Priest said: "I’m buzzing that Paul has agreed to join us, I worked closely with him when he was the manager and I know he’ll have some brilliant stories to share with supporters for a fantastic cause.

"Paul is without a doubt one of the nicest people I’ve ever met in football, he always went about his business seriously but always had time to crack a joke and make you feel involved.

"When we (The Mansfield Matters team) were planning this event, Paul's name was top of our list, I’m sure he’ll get a hero's welcome, as he did when he returned for the FA Cup clash last season."

Cox will be joined on the night by his assistant and captain during his tenure, Adam Murray, who succeeded him as manager in 2015, and also had three separate spells as a player at the club during his career.

"Adam is a great character who loves the club dearly, it was great to see him return towards the back end of last season in a media capacity and see that glint in his eye – his love for the club will never die and I know he’ll have plenty of stories to tell," Priest added.

"Murray was instrumental to our promotion-winning season, often playing through injury to drag us over the line. I know what drove that passion and I can’t wait for him to share those stories with fellow supporters.

"Getting Adam involved along with Paul and Richie is a real draw as he’s done pretty much every job going, from being part of the 2002 promotion as a youngster, to coaching the kids and taking over from Paul – it’s going to be a great night."

The evening will also delve further into the club's history, with more familiar heroic names to be announced soon.

"The fact the club have so generously allowed us to host the event at One Call Stadium at the Sandy Pate Sports Bar means so much, it really feels like we’re bringing home some iconic faces for a really important cause," said Priest.

"I’m really excited and thank all at the club for their generosity."

The evening will also include a sports quiz and on-stage entertainment as ‘Mansfield Matters’ aims to raise money for the Alzheimer’s Society and raise more awareness of Dementia.

Mansfield Matters ‘Legends Live’ takes place at One Call Stadium in the Sandy Pate Sports Bar on Friday 27 July at 8.00pm. The event is FREE entry, but donations are encouraged.
