New forward Walker says Stags' boss was main reason for move

2 July 2018

Newly-signed Stags’ forward Tyler Walker says manager David Flitcroft and the play-style of his Mansfield Town side were the main reasons he made the switch to One Call Stadium last week.

Highly-rated forward Walker, 21, joined the Stags on a season-long loan from Nottingham Forest last Friday, on a day that the club announced three signings.

The forward expressed his delight after joining the Stags for the 2018-19 season, citing Stags’ boss Flitcroft as one of the main reasons for his move.

“I’m buzzing. It’s taken a few days but I’m happy to finally be here with the lads and in time for Portugal [Stags’ pre-season training destination],” he said.

“A lot of the reason I’ve signed is because of the manager and the style of play. I’m really happy to be here and looking forward to next season.”

“Now we can go away and get to know the lads, it [Portugal trip] will definitely help the lads gel together.

“A lot of the reason I’ve signed is because of the manager and the style of play. I’m really happy to be here and looking forward to next season.”

Walker also spoke of the type of forward that he is, and says he is looking to use the loan spell at One Call Stadium to develop himself as a player and add plenty of goals to the Mansfield front line.

“[I’ll look to add] movement and obviously goals. We have two other great new signings with me here [Otis Khan and Craig Davies], and I’m looking forward to working with them,” he added.

“I’m a striker who likes to score goals and create goals. I’m an attacking player who likes to have the ball at my feet and hopefully I can do that this season.

“I know a few of the lads already and they’re really nice guys. I’ve settled in really well and I’m really happy.

“The main thing for me is game time and goals. I want to play in every game and score lots of goals.

“We had to talk to [Nottingham] Forest before coming here, but we were both on the same page. They want me to go out and get some games and goals, and come back hopefully a better player.

“That [first team minutes] is what I need. It’s massive for a young player like myself. Game time is the main thing.

“The loans are good because they help you get experience and I feel like I’ve learned a lot from them. I feel like I’m equipped to come here and do what I have to do.”
