Match preview: Stags vs Sheffield United

20 July 2018

Mansfield Town take on Sheffield United on Saturday in their second of four home pre-season fixtures against Championship opposition. Here's all you need to know ahead of the clash...

Stags' striker Danny Rose could miss out on the game due to the toe injury he picked up towards the end of last season. Manager David Flitcroft says he expects Saturday to be 'too soon' for last term's top goalscorer to return, yet he could feature in next Tuesday's fixture against Sheffield Wednesday.

It is not yet known whether defender Nathan Cameron will feature, as he picked up what is a presumed ankle injury in Stags' 3-1 win over Derby on Wednesday night.

Defensive duo David Mirfin and Zander Diamond will also miss out as they continue their recoveries from knee and back injuries respectively.

Stags have had a positive pre-season thus far, the highlight being their 3-1 win over Frank Lampard's Derby County side on Wednesday night. Substitutes Jordan Graham, Lee Angol and CJ Hamilton added the goals in a stellar second-half display by Mansfield. Representatives from Stags' first-team have also made trips to Bradford Park Avenue, Retford United and Hednesford Town over the past couple of weeks, winning two and drawing one.

The Blades have also had a promising pre-season campaign, with their most recent result being a 3-2 victory over Bradford City on Tuesday evening.

The referee for Saturday's match will be Mark Heywood, who will be assisted by Mark Jones and David Plowright. The fourth official will be David Hunt.

The last competitive Stags' fixture that Mr. Heywood took charge of was our narrow loss to Stevenage in October 2016.
