Youth preview: Doncaster Rovers vs Stags

3 January 2018

Mansfield Town's under 18s can reclaim top spot in the Youth Alliance North East Division when they take on Doncaster Rovers at Cantley Park in their first match of 2018 this Saturday (11.00am kick-off).

Stags ended 2017 with an impressive seven wins from eight games in all competitions to propel themselves to the top of the standings and into the knock-out stages of the EFL Youth Alliance Cup.

Last time out, goals from forward Nyle Blake, striker Riley O'Sullivan and defender Aiden Walker gave Stags a comfortable 3-0 win at home to Walsall.

Another victory on Saturday would see the under 18s leapfrog second-placed Rotherham United and current table-toppers Oldham Athletic on goal difference.

A feature of Mansfield's season has been their water-tight defence; the Stags haven't conceded in any of their last five league games.

Doncaster endured a wretched start to their campaign, with one win from their first eleven games in all competitions, a run which included a nine-match winless streak.

But the Yorkshire side have rallied since then and are now enjoying their most consistent spell of the season, winning three and drawing one of their last four games.

The last time the two teams met was back in September when they played out a 0-0 draw at Rainworth Miners Welfare, but the Stags are in excellent form heading into the return fixture and will be confident of coming home with all three points.
