What's on in the Sandy Pate Sports Bar this week?

19 February 2018

The Sandy Pate Sports Bar is a hive of activity this week with live football, quiz nights and live entertainment on various days!

The first match to be shown will be the final tie of this weekend’s FA Cup fifth round fixtures between Wigan Athletic and Manchester City from 7.55pm on MONDAY – a repeat of the 2013 final.

Manchester City progressed to the fifth round after defeating Stags’ third round opponents Cardiff City 2-0. Wigan have beaten two Premier League sides to progress to this stage of the competition – a 3-0 win at home to Bournemouth and a 2-0 victory against West Ham, also at the DW Stadium.

On TUESDAY, the Champions League returns to the Sandy Pate Sports Bar, with Chelsea hosting La Liga leaders Barcelona in the first leg of the last 16. The Blues finished second in their qualification group, while the Spanish giants topped their group undefeated. Kick-off is at 7.45pm.

There will be more Champions League action on WEDNESDAY, with another last 16 first leg tie between an English and Spanish side, as three-time winners Manchester United travel to Sevilla. United cruised to top spot in qualification, while Sevilla finished runners-up behind their opponents’ arch-rivals Liverpool. The game will also kick-off at 7.45pm.

Also on WEDNESDAY evening, our weekly poker night returns following a Valentine’s Day break last week. It costs just £5 to buy-in and begins at 8.00pm.

THURSDAY evening will contain yet more European action, this time in the form of Arsenal against Oestersunds in the Europa League. The Gunners swept past the Swedish outfit 3-0 in the first leg of their last 16 tie, and will be hoping for a similarly comfortable task when they host the Europa League debutants.

THURSDAY is also quiz night at the Sandy Pate Sports Bar with an 8.30pm start. As always, there will be a range of topics covered, from general knowledge to history, and sport to TV & film. There's something for everyone so assemble your team and get quizzing!

We will also be hosting a game of Sticky 13s on THURSDAY, so there’s plenty to get your teeth into. Simply be the first person to have all your cards read out to be the winner of over £500.

On FRIDAY, the live action returns to the Sky Bet Championship with a Yorkshire & Humber derby, as Sheffield United host Hull City. The Blades are currently eighth in the league table and will be hoping to close the four-point gap on the top six. As for the away side, they managed a first away victory in 34 attempts last time out over Nottingham Forest, and will be hoping for a similar outcome to steer them away from the bottom three.

Visitors to the bar can purchase a bottle of Prosecco for just £10 between 6.00pm and 9.00pm on FRIDAY as part of our fantastic Fizz Friday offer, before the live entertainment kicks in!

The excellent Becky Knight will be performing hits from the 1960s up until the present day! Becky will take to the stage from 9.00pm!

The bar is located towards the back of the Ian Greaves Stand at One Call Stadium, with plenty of free parking.

We'll be serving food every day this week from 12.00pm until 9.00pm!
