Match preview: Stags vs Coventry City

23 February 2018

Mansfield Town host Coventry City in another meeting of the promotion chasers at One Call Stadium on Saturday (24 February, 3.00pm kick-off) and this is your comprehensive guide to the fixture.

Defender David Mirfin is the only player missing for the Stags as he continues his rehabilitation from a knee injury.

For Coventry, long-term absentees Michael Doyle and Jack Grimmer are doubtful ahead of Saturday's fixture, however the pair are making progress from their respective injuries and could still feature in the matchday squad.

Meanwhile, Jodi Jones and Tony Andreu will both be absent as the pair
continue to recover from season-ending knee injuries.

Jordan Maguire-Drew could come back into City's matchday 18 after being
dropped for the Sky Blues' last two fixtures against Colchester and Brighton, in
Sky Bet League Two and the Emirates FA Cup, respectively.

In the last two games, Stags have secured excellent victories at home to Newport and away against Exeter City, respectively.

The home victory against Newport signalled boss Steve Evans' most comprehensive win since taking over as manager in November 2016 as an Alfie Potter hat-trick and strikes from frontman Danny Rose and midfielder Alex MacDonald clinched a 5-0 win for the Stags.

They followed that up just a few days later with a superb 1-0 win away to Exeter City. In a first half of one-way dominance, top scorer Danny Rose slammed the ball home from eight yards out to secure a fine win.

The Sky Blues have lost their last four games in all competitions.

They were defeated 3-1 away to Premier League side Brighton and Hove Albion in the Emirates FA Cup last weekend, following three straight losses in Sky Bet League Two.

A home defeat against Accrington Stanley - Coventry's first since Stags' victory in November - was sandwiched between away reverses against Colchester United and Forest Green Rovers, respectively.

Our last meeting occurred in November 2017 and it turned out to be a memorable day for Stags' fans.

An away following of 1,565 supporters were sent into raptures in the second period when midfielder Alex MacDonald scored a 30-yard beauty to seal a 1-0 win at the Ricoh Arena.

OVERALL RECORD: W - 4 | D - 1 | L - 4

Michael Salisbury will be in charge of Saturday's home game against Coventry City, and he will be assisted by Peter Gooch and Duncan Street.

Mark Dwyer will be the fourth official.

Mr Salisbury's last match officiating the Stags was our 1-0 Checkatrade Trophy win over Everton U23s in October 2017.
