Match preview: Macclesfield Town vs Stags

24 August 2018

Stags travel to Moss Rose on Saturday, where they will face Macclesfield Town for a Sky Bet League Two clash (3pm kick-off). Here's all you need to know ahead of the match...

Centre-back Matt Preston will again miss out following the concussion he sustained during our 2-2 draw away to Yeovil Town earlier this month.

Defensive duo David Mirfin and Zander Diamond will also be absent as they continue their recoveries from long-term knee and back injuries, respectively.

Macclesfield midfielder Elliott Durrell is a doubt for the game due to a groin issue.

The last time we faced Macclesfield was in our Blue Square Bet Premier fixture in April 2013. Goals by Matt Green, Luke Jones and Lee Stevenson gave Stags a significant lead, before Pablo Mills added a late consolation for the Silkmen. The game finished 3-1, helping Mansfield move two points clear at the top of the table.

Stags maintained their unbeaten start to the season with their hard-fought 0-0 draw with Tranmere Rovers at Prenton Park on Tuesday evening.

Macclesfield took the lead in the 19th minute of their last fixture against Cheltenham, and held on to their one-goal advantage for the majority of the contest, before conceding an 85th minute equaliser by Immanuelson Duku.

The referee for Saturday's game wil be Anthony Backhouse, assisted by Steven Rushton and Paul Hobday. The fourth official will be Richard Wild.

The last time Mr. Backhouse took charge of a Stags' fixture was our 1-1 draw against Exeter in October of last year.

Stags received an allocation of 700 tickets for the clash, all of which the club have now sold. However, tickets can still be purchased from Macclesfield.
