Youth Preview: Lincoln City vs Stags

12 April 2018

Mansfield Town under-18s are in action this Saturday as they travel to Moorlands Sports Ground to take on Lincoln City in the EFL Youth Alliance (kick-off 11:00am).

The Stags go into the game on a high after back-to-back 4-0 wins, with goals from Aiden Walker, Rhys Sarson, Keaton Ward and Nyle Blake seeing off Oldham Athletic last time out.

They also scored four without reply in their last away match, with Ward, Tyrese Sinclair, Sam Jackson and Jake Dumbleton securing the win against Scunthorpe United.

The win over Oldham cemented Mansfield's position at the top of the EFL Youth Alliance North East Division, with the Stags opening up an eight-point lead on second-placed Notts County with two games in hand.

Mansfield's away form has been impressive this season, winning seven, drawing one, and losing twice on the road in all competitions, with one of those defeats coming by way of a penalty shootout against Grimsby in the EFL Youth Alliance Cup.

Lincoln City have enjoyed a sturdy season, sitting comfortably in mid-table having won nine and losing nine of their twenty games with a neutral goal difference.

After enduring a run of one win in twelve games, The Imps have bounced back with three wins from their last four matches and similar to Mansfield, have won back-to-back games against Scunthorpe and Oldham.

The last time the teams met was at Rainworth Miners Welfare in December, when the Stags’ 3-0 win sent them to the top of the table, and ever since then they have stayed as league leaders.

Another win on Saturday and the Stags are within touching distance of the league title coming into the final few games of the season.

For fans wishing to attend the game the address is: Lincoln Moorlands Sport and Social Club, Newark Rd, Lincoln, LN6 8RT. Kick-off is 11.00am.
