Match Preview: Stevenage vs Stags

10 April 2018

Stags travel to the Lamex Stadium to face Stevenage on Tuesday night, and here’s all you need to know ahead of the clash…

Defender David Mirfin will miss out again as he continues to recover from knee surgery.

Left-back Mal Benning will miss the game as he serves the final game of his suspension from his sending off against Accrington Stanley on Good Friday.

Stevenage boss Dino Maamria has nearly a fully-fit squad to choose from, with just Dean Bowditch (knee) and Mark McKee (calf) the only injury concerns.

Matty Godden could return to the starting XI for the game, as he came off the bench in Stevenage’s last two fixtures.

The last time Stags went toe-to-toe with Stevenage was back in November 2017, when Kane Hemmings’ first-half goal gave his side a 1-0 victory.

Joel Byrom crossed the ball from a free-kick, and a mistake from Stevenage goalkeeper Joe Fryer gave Hemmings his opportunity to strike.

Stags thought they had doubled their lead in the 57th minute through Hemmings again, as he pounced on the ball after it was dropped by Fryer, but the goal was ultimately ruled out and a free-kick was awarded to the visitors.

Sebastian Stockbridge will referee the game, and will be assisted by Carl Fitch-Jackson and Paul Yates. The fourth official will be Kevin Howick.

Mr. Stockbridge last took charge of a Stags’ game in our dramatic 2-1 win over Morecambe in January, when striker Jimmy Spencer scored a 94th-minute winner.

It was thought that Mal Benning scored the late winner from the edge of the box, but claims from the dressing room said Spencer got the final touch.

We were originally meant to make the trip to Hertfordshire on Saturday 03 March, but the game was postponed due to a frozen pitch.

Any tickets bought for the original date are still valid for the fixture, but ticket holders are entitled to a full refund from our ticket office.
