Youth Preview: Rotherham United vs Stags

30 April 2018

Mansfield Town under-18s will be looking for a seventh consecutive win when they take on Rotherham United at Roundwood Sports Complex in the penultimate game of the EFL Youth Alliance season tomorrow (kick-off 1.00pm).

Stags secured their third successive league title in their last trip to Yorkshire by beating Bradford City 2-1, and they followed that up with a 4-0 win at home over Grimsby Town thanks to goals from Riley O'Sullivan, Iywrah Gooden, James Tague and Tyrese Sinclair.

Mansfield will be confident of adding another victory to their impressive away record too, as they've won eight and drawn one of their ten games on the road.

They have shown their adaptability this season by winning games on state-of-the-art 3G pitches, expansive non-league pitches, professional surroundings such as St. George’s Park and EFL stadiums Blundell Park and AESSEAL New York Stadium in the FA Youth Cup.

It was at the New York Stadium where the teams last met, with Gooden's far post header giving Stags a 1-0 win. The league game earlier in the season saw a share of the spoils as Lewis Gibbens' header was cancelled out with just five minutes remaining.

For most of the season, Rotherham have been pushing Mansfield for the title but fell away after a run of four defeats in six games; they currently sit second in the league with three games remaining.

Another win for Mansfield could see them end the day a massive 16 points ahead of Rotherham and 17 clear of local rivals Notts County before the big derby this Saturday.

For fans wishing to attend the game the address is: Roundwood Sports Complex, Green Lane, Rawmarsh, S62 6LA.
