The big derby preview: Chesterfield vs Stags

13 April 2018

Stags visit the Proact Stadium to face rivals Chesterfield on Saturday (1.00pm kick-off) for the biggest game of the season so far. Here’s all you need to know ahead of the huge derby game…

Defender David Mirfin will miss out again as he continues his recovery from knee surgery.

Forward Ricky Miller will also be sidelined due to the hamstring injury he picked up during the Stags’ 4-3 loss to Crewe Alexandra at One Call Stadium on Saturday.

Left-back Mal Benning is eligible for selection following the three-game ban that he has now served for his red card against Accrington Stanley on Good Friday.

Chesterfield will hope to have defender Ian Evatt back in contention for the match, as he was deemed not quite fit enough to make the squad for their 2-2 draw with Morecambe on Tuesday.

The last time we faced Chesterfield, the game ended in late drama, when skipper Zander Diamond’s 88th minute header snatched a point for the Stags in a 2-2 draw.

It was his third goal in two games at the time, and came after Hayden White scored for the Stags in the 24th minute with an emphatic finish.

The referee for the game will be Darren Drysdale, assisted by Marvyn Amphlett and Oliver Bickle. The fourth official will be Nick Greenhalgh.

The last time Mr. Drysdale took charge of a Stags game was our 3-1 win over Carlisle United on New Year's Day.

Stags are set to take a sell-out crowd to the Proact Stadium on Saturday, taking up the entire 2,740 allocation for the game.

This is an all-ticket fixture and tickets will not be available to buy on matchday.

Tomorrow we will be releasing a comprehensive travel guide ahead of the game, which will go into detail about parking, safety precautions, turnstile information and any other pre-match information that the club has been provided with.
