Youth Preview: Chesterfield vs Stags

18 April 2018

Mansfield Town under-18s are back in EFL Youth Alliance action this Saturday when they take on Chesterfield at St. Georges Park Graves in Sheffield (kick-off 11:00 am).

The game will take place on a 3G pitch at the FA's first state-of-the-art multi-pitch community football hub which plays host to various teams, both professional and amateur.

Mansfield tightened their grip on the EFL Youth Alliance North East Division following their 3-0 away win at Lincoln City. First-half goals from Sam Jackson, Rhys Sarson and Aiden Walker gave John Dempster's team a comfortable victory.

Stags are eight points clear of second placed Oldham Athletic with two games in hand and can wrap up the league title with a win against Grimsby Town on the 28th April.

Rotherham United have four games in hand over Oldham and two over Mansfield and need to win all of their remaining games and hope Stags falter to have any chance of catching the league leaders.

Local rivals Chesterfield have enjoyed a positive league season; the Spireites are fourth, are the league’s third-highest scorers and have won their last two games.

Their cup exploits haven't been as convincing, losing in the FA Youth Cup third round to Swansea City, and missed out on the knock-out stages of the EFL Youth Alliance Cup, finishing second in the group but not as one of the best runners-up.

The last time the two teams met was on the opening game of the season, with penalties from Keaton Ward and Joel Phillips contributing to a 1-1 draw.

Fans wishing to attend the game need to be registered before entering the facility, this can be done via www.secure.stgeorgespark-local.com/Account/Login. The address is: St George’s Park Graves, Bochum Parkway, Sheffield, S8 8JR.
