Youth preview: Stags vs Doncaster Rovers

6 September 2017

Mansfield Town's under 18s will be looking to extend their lead at the top of the EFL Youth Alliance when they take on Doncaster Rovers on Saturday (11.00am kick-off).

The young guns will face Rovers at Rainworth Miners' Welfare on Saturday morning in their next Youth Alliance clash.

Academy manager John Dempster's side hit the division's summit on Saturday when they defeated Hartlepool United 2-0 thanks to strikes from defender Lewis Gibbens and striker Rhys Sarson.

The Stags have only dropped two points so far this season, a result of a 1-1 draw at home to Chesterfield on the opening day as each side scored a penalty.

Saturday's visitors have endured a tricky start to the season, picking up just one point from their first three league fixtures.

They lost their first match of the season 3-0 at home to Grimsby Town before narrowly losing 2-1 away to Bradford City.

Rovers were then thumped 4-0 at the hands of Bury in their first EFL Youth Alliance Cup match, but picked up their first point of the season in last week's 1-1 draw at home to Scunthorpe United.

Looking at the league table as a whole, Stags have stolen a march in the early stages thanks to superb consistency. They are one of only three sides not to have lost a game thus far and they will be aiming to continue that unbeaten start on Saturday.

Dempster's men now sit one point clear at the top of the table, with Lincoln City one place behind on nine points.

Supporters are welcome to attend the fixture at the following venue:
