Super sub Danny Rose says his match-winning header in this afternoon’s 1-0 victory over Lincoln City was one of the most satisfying goals of his career so far.
The former Bury frontman climbed off the bench in the 58th minute before heading home the only goal of the game three minutes later from right-back Hayden White’s cross.
And in addition to being completely satisfied with his header, he is also ecstatic with the victory.
“Yeah it is [one of my most satisfying goals] and it’s up there with one of my most favourite wins as well, if I’m totally honest with you. It’s a very good win for us.
“As soon as he (Hayden White) took the ball out his feet, the man’s got five yards on him, he’s still managed to do him with pace, I knew straight away how quick he was and luckily he’s hung the ball up and I’ve got above the defender.”
Rose was keen to praise his team-mates for their collective performance against the Imps, especially for how they performed after going in front.
“It’s a good win against a good team, it’s a very dogged performance by everyone.
"It’s a good win against a good team, it’s a very dogged performance by everyone."
“The game was in the balance at 0-0, luckily we’ve got the goal at 1-0 and I thought everyone was superb, even when the goal went in we were brilliant and didn’t look like conceding.
“As soon as the whistle went I went over to [Paul Digby] and said ‘you were brilliant, Man-of-the-Match today’. He won absolutely everything. I didn’t think [Matt] Rhead and [Matt] Green had a sniff in the game and that was because of him and the back four.”
Despite the excitement of winning a local derby, Rose insists the Stags will not be getting carried away and he will continue to work hard.
“It’s just a typical away performance if I’m honest with you, a 1-0 win. We don’t get excited; we go into the next game next week.
“I’m just going to continue to work hard in training and whenever I get the chance to come on, or whether I start, and just hopefully it puts me in his plans for next week.
“The fans were brilliant, from the start, they were absolutely brilliant. Throughout the game they’ve put in a very good performance as we did as well and the lads are very thankful for that.”
