Match preview: Colchester United vs Stags

6 October 2017

Mansfield Town travel to the Weston Homes Community Stadium to face Colchester Untied on Saturday (07 October, 3.00pm kick-off) and this is your definitive guide to the fixture.

Defender Zander Diamond (groin), midfielder Joel Byrom (foot) and winger Alfie Potter (calf) will all miss Saturday's clash, but manager Steve Evans hopes they could be in contention for next week's match against Swindon Town.

It is hoped, however, that defender Hayden White could be fit enough to play a part on Saturday after missing last week's win over Notts County.

Midfielder Sammy Szmodics could still be missing for the U's after he picked up an ankle injury against Grimsby Town last week, thus meaning he missed the victory over Yeovil and the Checkatrade Trophy defeat to Gillingham.

Centre-half Tom Eastman is nearing full fitness again, however long term absentees Brennan Dickenson, defender Luke Prosser and midfielder Courtney Senior will all miss out.

Stags bounced back from the disappointing 3-0 defeat away to Cheltenham with a superb 3-1 victory over local rivals Notts County last week.

A brace from striker Danny Rose and a Richard Duffy own goal ensured Stags earned the bragging rights on Derby Day.

The 3-0 reverse against the Robins was Stags' only defeat in September as they climbed to eighth in Sky Bet League Two.

The U's currently lie 16th in the division after a frustrating start to the campaign.

They have, however, begun to turn a corner of late after recording a 2-2 draw against Grimsby Town last week before defeating Yeovil 1-0 following back-to-back defeats against Cheltenham Town and Wycombe Wanderers.

The last meeting at the Weston Homes Community Stadium ended in a 2-0 victory for the hosts.

Two goals in eight first half minutes from winger Brennan Dickenson and midfielder Sammy Szmodics ensured the points went to John McGreal's side, despite Stags creating numerous goalscoring chances throughout the match.

HEAD-TO-HEAD record: W: 13 | D: 16 | L: 19

The referee for the occasion will be John Busby and he will be assisted by Stuart Butler and Anthony Da Costa. Darren Blunden will be the fourth official.

Mr Busby's last game in charge of the Stags came in the 1-1 draw at home to Cheltenham Town last season.

We have been allocated 292 tickets for the fixture, but additional tickets will be available on the day.

The stadium is located close to the dual carriageway and, therefore, there are few drinking and dining outlets in the vicinity of the ground.

However, The Stadium Bar, located inside the Weston Homes Community Stadium, will be open for both home and away fans.

If travelling by train, there are a number of pubs in the town centre, but The Norfolk Arms is the most popular amongst travelling supporters.
