Minute's applause for local boy Dawson at today's derby

25 November 2017

The club is deeply saddened this morning to learn of the passing of two-year-old Dawson Willcock and will be holding a minute's applause in the second minute of today's match in his memory.

Dawson, from Sutton-in-Ashfield, sadly lost his brave battle against a rare liver cancer, heptoblastoma.

A minute's applause for Dawson will take place in the second minute, followed by an applause for 12-year-old Chesterfield supporter Abbie Jacques in the 12th minute, who sadly passed away last month.

Stags' manager Steve Evans said this morning:
"Having met Dawson and his family only a few months ago, it's heartbreaking to today learn of the young lad's passing.

"Our thoughts and heartfelt prayers are with Dawson's family at this incredibly sad time.

"There will be a minute's applause in the second minute of the match for Dawson  and in the 12th minute for Chesterfield supporter Abbie Jaques.

"Let's make both isolated minutes special occasions for both of the young people who were taken from their families far too soon."
