Match preview: Shaw Lane vs Stags

3 November 2017

Mansfield Town get their Emirates FA Cup campaign underway when they face Evo-Stik Premier side Shaw Lane on Saturday (12.30pm kick-off). The game will be LIVE on BT Sport 1 and this is your comprehensive guide to the fixture.

The only absentee in the Stags' ranks is centre-half David Mirfin, who will sit out Saturday's match due to a hamstring strain.

Manager Steve Evans revealed on Thursday morning that he 'could be pushed' to play, but the manager isn't willing to risk the former Scunthorpe United man.

Shaw Lane manager Craig Elliott's team includes midfielder David Norris, who has played in the Championship for Leeds United, Ipswich Town, Portsmouth and Plymouth Argyle.

Defender Neil Austin, 34, played for Barnsley in the Championship.

Stags are currently on a five-match unbeaten run and go into Saturday's game on the back of two wins in three games.

Back-to-back draws away to Barnet and Newport County, respectively, were followed by a 2-1 win over local rivals Notts County in the Checkatrade Trophy last week.

Stags then drew 1-1 at home to Exeter City when the Grecians rescued a point late in the game, despite heavy dominance from the Stags.

Manager Steve Evans' men then recorded a 1-0 win over Everton U23s in the Checkatrade Trophy on Tuesday, another dominant display.

After losing their opening two games of the season, Shaw Lane have gone on a superb run which has included just two defeats in 15 league games.

The Ducks lost 4-1 in their FA Trophy replay against Ramsbottom United on Tuesday evening, however boss Craig Elliott did make significant changes to his side with Saturday's match on the horizon.

This will be the first meeting between the sides.

The Ducks have won four promotions in their last five years and this will be their first-ever appearance in the first round proper of the FA Cup.

The referee for the fixture will be Ben Toner and he will be assisted by Steven Rushton and Richard Wild. The fourth official will be Darren Handley.

Mr Toner's last game in charge of the Stags was our 2-1 victory over Cambridge United at One Call Stadium in September.

Tickets for the FA Cup tie are now sold out and none will be made available on the day for Stags' fans.

However, Stags' fans can still watch Saturday's encounter amongst other supporters in the Kevin Bird Suite at One Call Stadium.

The match will be shown live on BT Sport 1 (12.30pm kick-off) and supporters can watch it in the KBS for just £5.

The price includes a meal of pie and peas and a free pint (non-alcoholic alternative available).

Tickets to watch the match in the KBS must be purchased in advance and more information can be found here.

Alternatively, supporters will be able to watch the tie in the Sandy Pate Sports Bar and the bar will be open from 9am. Entry is free.

The nearest pub to Sheerien Park is The Eastfield Arms, located on Wakefield Road. This is a three-minute drive from the Ducks' home ground, or a 15-minute walk.

Food and drink will be available in the away section of the ground, whilst any disabled supporters wishing to use toilet facilities should make themselves known to a steward who will direct them to the appropriate facility.

Supporters who are opting to drive to South Yorkshire should use the postcode: S71 3NW, which will take you to North Royds Wood, where matchday parking is available for £2.
