Mansfield Town head groundsman Michael Merriman is expecting next season's pitch to be 'the best ever', as its renovation begins today.
This morning, roots from the playing surface will be removed before plastic drainage is installed and the pitch levelled.
Weather permitting, Stags’ fans can expect a fine playing surface throughout 2017-18.
And today, Michael said the work will help the pitch look ‘incredible' before the start of pre-season.
Speaking about the overhaul, he told www.mansfieldtown.net: "It's enormous for Mansfield Town. It's the most the club has spent (on the pitch) by far.
"The chairman and CEO have given me a good budget to work with this year for the pitch, so hopefully things will go to plan. It's probably six or seven times more budget than I'm used to.
"The manager has been a big help in getting me what I've got - so thanks to him.
"It should be a lot easier during the winter months. having said that you never know what is coming out the sky, but this work can only help.”
In optimistic mood ahead of the pitch’s renovation, Michael added: "It should be incredible. Everything is set up towards a League One/Championship set up in relation to the pitch.”
