Match preview: Stocksbridge Park Steels vs Stags

17 July 2017

Mansfield Town continue their pre-season schedule on Tuesday evening when they travel to non-league side Stocksbridge Park Steels (7.30pm kick-off).

Stags came out of Saturday's first home pre-season friendly against Sheffield Wednesday unscathed.

Winger Alex MacDonald sat out the encounter with a slight hamstring strain, but boss Steve Evans revealed in Monday afternoon's news conference that the former Oxford man could be in contention for Wednesday's visit of Middlesbrough.

Striker Omari Sterling-James only completed 30 minutes against the Owls, but he had only trained once in the lead up to the game after sustaining a slight hamstring strain.

For the Steels, they confirmed that all but two of last season's squad have signed on for the 2017/18 campaign.

The only two players to move on are midfielder Harrison Biggins, who has joined League One side Fleetwood Town, and striker Josh Meade, who joined Buxton.

In addition, Stocksbridge have added forwards Ryan Carroll and Luke Mangham to their ranks.

Stags enjoyed a thorough workout against a strong Sheffield Wednesday side on Saturday afternoon at One Call Stadium.

Although the Owls ultimately ran out 3-2 winners thanks to goals from Jordan Rhodes, Tom Lees and Lucas Joao, boss Steve Evans got to see 22 of his first team squad in action.

Defenders George Taft and Rhys Bennett got on the score-sheet for the Stags, as over 4,000 people got to see the new-look side in action for the first time.

Stocksbridge have played two pre-season fixtures so far this month.

The Evo-Stik side lost 9-0 to a Sheffield United XI on 08 July, before defeating Doncaster side Armthorpe 1-0 thanks to a Joe Lumsden penalty.
